The Galion History Center marks a significant milestone this year—its 70th anniversary. Since its founding in March 1955 by Dr. Bernard Mansfield and a dedicated group of community members, the organization has remained committed to preserving and promoting the rich history of Galion and its surrounding areas. Originally established as the Galion Historical Society, it has evolved into a thriving institution that honors the past, enriches the present, and inspires the future.
To celebrate this milestone, the Galion History Center is launching its first-ever Annual Appeal after transitioning from a traditional membership model to a donor-driven format. This shift aims to engage individuals, businesses, and organizations in sustaining and expanding the center’s preservation efforts, educational programs, and community events.
“Community support has made all the difference in the success of the Galion History Center over the past seventy years,” said Tanesha Pickering, Executive Director. “A coalition of countless people giving their money, time, and resources to the betterment of Galion history is the reason our organization is still here and thriving in 2025.”
Engaging the Community Through History
The Galion History Center isn’t just about safeguarding historical artifacts—it’s about bringing history to life in ways that engage and educate the community. Funds raised through the Annual Appeal will directly support three key areas:
Education & Inspiration
Visitors can explore historic buildings, participate in hands-on learning experiences, and enjoy interactive student programs through school field trips and community workshops.
Community Engagement
The center hosts unique events like Uptowne Prohibition Galion walking tours, Murder Mystery CLUE at Brownella Cottage, and immersive storytelling experiences that transport guests to different moments in history.
Memorable Experiences
Annual events such as book signings, museum exhibits, cocktail pairing tours, and Trick-Or-Treat After Dark make history fun and accessible for all ages.
These initiatives ensure that Galion’s history isn’t just remembered but actively experienced and celebrated by the community.
