Galion City Schools are kicking off their annual sock drive, running from October 1 to October 31 and aimed at collecting new socks for those in need. This community service project, spearheaded by the students and staff, has been a cornerstone of local giving for the past ten years. Over this period, the schools have donated more than 21,000 pairs of brand-new socks to the community, with each pair making its way to the Marion Homeless Shelter. Last year alone, the drive collected over 6,000 pairs, setting a high benchmark that they aim to surpass this year.

How You Can Contribute

Donation is simple: just drop off new socks in the classroom collection boxes located throughout Galion City Schools. The drive is open to all students and community members, encouraging everyone to take part in this generous act of kindness.

Special Incentives for Students

To make the sock drive even more engaging, students can bring in socks on Wednesdays in October (2, 9, 16, 23, and 30) to earn fun rewards. Here’s how it works:

  • 1 pair of socks: Earns a hat day.
  • 3 pairs of socks: Brings a small stuffed animal.
  • 5 pairs of socks: Gets a hat and sunglasses day.
  • 6 pairs of socks: Qualifies for a pajama day.

This fun incentive program, led by Ms. Prince and Ms. Showecker’s 5th Grade class, aims to boost participation and make the act of giving even more enjoyable for students.

Why Socks Matter

Socks are among the most needed but least donated items at shelters. Keeping feet warm and dry, especially during colder months, is essential for overall health and well-being. By contributing to this drive, participants are directly impacting the lives of those experiencing homelessness and hardship in the community.

Join the Effort

Galion City Schools invite everyone to participate in this meaningful drive. Whether it’s donating a pair or encouraging others to join in, every small effort helps make a big difference. Let’s come together as a community to ensure no feet go cold this season!

Help spread the word and support this heartwarming initiative! 🧦✨
