As the summer winds down, Galion Schools is gearing up for a busy and event-filled August. From elementary bootcamps to the first day of school, here’s everything you need to know to stay ahead and get your family prepared for the new school year.
Elementary Bootcamp: August 5-9
Starting off the month, the Elementary Bootcamp will be held from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM each day. This program is an excellent opportunity for younger students to get a head start, brush up on their skills, and ease into the upcoming academic year with confidence.
School Bus Basics Course: August 6
Ensuring student safety is a top priority. On August 6, a School Bus Basics Course will take place from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM. This course is designed to familiarize both new and returning students with the essentials of bus safety, helping them understand the importance of proper behavior while riding the bus.
Free Pool Day at Heise Park: August 9
What better way to enjoy the last days of summer than with a Free Pool Day? On August 9, students and families are invited to Heise Park from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM for a day of fun in the sun. This community event is a great way to relax and connect with friends before the school year begins.
District Evening Open House: August 14
Meet the teachers, explore the classrooms, and get acquainted with the school environment during the District Evening Open House on August 14. Each school will host during the following times:
- Galion Primary School (GPS): 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM
- Galion Intermediate School (GIS): 4:40 PM to 6:30 PM
- Galion Middle & High Schools (GMS & GHS): 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM
This is a valuable opportunity for students and parents alike to ask questions, receive important information, and start the year on the right foot.
First Day of School (with a 2-hour delay): August 15
Mark your calendars—the first day of school for Galion Schools is August 15. Please note that there will be a 2-hour delay, giving everyone a bit of extra time to adjust to the start of a new academic journey.
District Lockdown Drill: August 19
In an effort to ensure the safety of all students and staff, a District Lockdown Drill will be conducted on August 19 at 2:15 PM. These drills are essential for preparedness, helping everyone understand what to do in the unlikely event of an emergency.
Second Harvest Food Bank & Board of Education Meeting: August 20
On August 20, the Second Harvest Food Bank will be open from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM, providing essential resources to those in need. Later that evening, the Board of Education will hold its meeting at 6:30 PM, where key decisions and updates for the district will be discussed.
