From Cottage Tours to Kart Racing: Galion History Center In July

This month, the Galion History Center has curated a lineup of events that brings the past to life while celebrating the people and stories that shape the Galion community today. From open house evenings to a fast-paced exhibit unveiling, there’s something for everyone looking to connect with history—and each other.

Thursday Summer Evenings at the Museums

On July 10 and 24, the Galion History Center opens its doors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. for Summer Open Hours. These Thursday evening events invite visitors to explore two historic locations. On the 10th, guests can enjoy tours of the Brownella Cottage and the Galion History Museum. Two weeks later, on the 24th, the spotlight shifts to the Hayden-Helfrich Annex at 331 E. Railroad Street. It’s a perfect opportunity to take in Galion’s rich heritage during a relaxed summer evening.

Purse Bingo Buzz Begins

One of the most anticipated annual events—the Women of Galion Purse Bingo—is back for its fourth year. While the bingo itself is still to come, ticketing opens online on Friday, July 11 at 10:00 a.m. sharp. Early ticket buyers are encouraged to visit www.galionhistory.com/events to secure their spot. This event typically sells out quickly, a testament to the fun and community support it draws year after year.

A Mid-Month Pause for Staff Rest

The Galion History Center offices will be closed from July 14 through 18 as staff take a well-deserved vacation. While museum-goers will have to wait a few days for services to resume, it’s a great time to reflect on the value of the people behind the programs and preservation efforts that make the center such a vital part of Galion’s identity.

Zoom into History with a High-Speed Unveiling

Capping off the month in style, the Hayden-Helfrich Annex will host the unveiling of the Century Speed Kart Exhibit on Friday, July 26 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. This new addition to the museum celebrates the thrilling world of kart racing and its ties to local heritage. Visitors can expect a dynamic look at both the machines and the personalities that fueled this fascinating sport. It’s a must-see for racing enthusiasts and history lovers alike.
