The Community Foundation for Crawford County has opened its lenses once again, inviting residents to capture the county’s character in its annual photo contest. Each year the best images find their way into the Foundation’s Gratitude Report and a keepsake calendar—visual love letters that hang in kitchens and offices across the county.
What’s New This Year
From now until Friday, July 25, photographers of all ages can submit images that showcase the people, places, and things that make Crawford County special. Twelve photographs will illuminate the Foundation’s 2024 Gratitude Report and 2026 local calendar, with one grand-prize shot taking top honors and earning its photographer a gift certificate to a local restaurant.
Inspiration From Above
Last year’s winning image—a shimmering nighttime aerial of Bucyrus by local photographer Douglas Weinandy—reminded residents how magical familiar streets can look from a new angle. Flip through past calendars on the Foundation’s website and you’ll find everything from misty farm fields at dawn to high-school marching bands in mid-stride, each paired with a bite-sized factoid that tells the deeper story behind the frame.
How to Enter
- Snap a photo that highlights Crawford County life—people, landmarks, hidden corners, or hometown events.
- Write a short factoid: a fun tidbit, historical note, or personal anecdote that adds context to your shot.
- Email the image, factoid, and your name to [email protected] by July 25. Past submissions not yet featured in a calendar will be happily reconsidered.
Still Looking for the 2025 Calendar?
If you missed out on a 2025 calendar, the Foundation has a handful left at its office—perfect for anyone who wants to see what winning entries look like up close (and maybe spark ideas for this year’s contest).
Why It Matters
Beyond the friendly competition and restaurant gift card, the contest fuels a sense of place attachment—encouraging residents to see everyday scenes through a fresh lens and celebrate why Crawford County is “where you belong.” So charge your batteries, grab your camera or phone, and start framing the stories that make this community unique.
