August Adventures Await At Lowe-Volk Park

From reptiles to stargazing, Lowe-Volk Park has packed the rest of August with activities for all ages and interests. Whether you’re drawn to wildlife encounters, hands-on hobbies, or night-sky wonders, the park offers a reason to visit before summer slips away.

Face to Face: Lizards – August 13, 5:30 PM

Step inside the Nature Center for a close look at the remarkable diversity of lizards, from tiny nano-chameleons to the formidable Komodo dragon. Visitors can meet the park’s lizard ambassadors and learn about reptile families from Ohio and beyond.

Hobby Maple Syrup Production – August 16, 1:00 PM

If you have a few maple trees, you have the potential for sweet rewards. OSU Extension staff will share how to make maple syrup on a small scale—perfect for personal use or as a unique homemade gift.

Viewing the Night Sky – August 23, 8:45 PM

The Crawford Park Astronomy Club will guide participants through the constellations and celestial targets of summer, including Leo, Sagittarius, and globular cluster M13. Cloudy skies will bring the program indoors at the Nature Center.

Archery – August 26, 5:00 PM & 6:00 PM

Learn the art and safety of archery, then test your skills on the range. All equipment is provided, with two evening sessions available. Advance registration is required at 419-683-9000.

Viewing the Night Sky – August 30, 8:45 PM

The month ends with another astronomy night, offering another chance to take in the summer skies and explore the wonders above.

Location

Lowe-Volk Park is located at 2401 State Route 598, Crestline, Ohio, just a few miles north of Galion. The park is part of the Crawford Park District and features a Nature Center, trails, wildlife viewing areas, and regular public programs.
