City Council in Galion is gearing up for a busy September. Committees are back in session after summer with packed agendas, setting the groundwork for two full Council meetings that will shape policy on utilities, zoning, parks, and public safety.

September at a Glance

The Council Chambers will see action nearly every weeknight. Here’s the schedule:

  • Wednesday, September 3, 7:00 PM – Utilities Committee
  • Thursday, September 4, 7:00 PM – Parks Committee
  • Monday, September 8, 7:00 PM – Laws, Ordinances, Zoning and Permits Committee
  • Tuesday, September 9, 7:00 PM – Full Council meeting
  • Thursday, September 11, 6:30 PM – Streets, Alleys, Trees, and Bridges Committee

  • Thursday, September 18, 7:00 PM – Police, Fire, and Health Committee
  • Tuesday, September 23, 7:00 PM – Full Council meeting

Committee Focus Areas

Each committee has a distinct focus:

  • Utilities: Electric, water, wastewater, and service reliability
  • Parks: Trails, playgrounds, facilities, and recreation programs
  • Laws, Ordinances, Zoning and Permits: Code updates, rezoning requests, and permits
  • Streets, Alleys, Trees, and Bridges: Paving, sidewalks, tree canopy, and bridge work
  • Economic Development and Airport: Site readiness, business retention, redevelopment, and airport matters
  • Finance: Budgets, capital planning, audits, and transfers
  • Police, Fire, and Health: Staffing, equipment, prevention, and public health coordination

Why It Matters

Committee sessions are where ideas take shape and details get hammered out before reaching the full Council. Public input during these meetings can help shape legislation before it’s finalized. By the time issues reach the Council floor, votes are often the last step.

Getting Involved

Residents are encouraged to attend. Keep remarks short and focused, under three minutes, to ensure your voice is heard. If you cannot be present, written comments sent to the clerk before 3:00 PM on the day of the meeting will still become part of the official record.

Spotlight Weeks

  • Early September: Utilities and Parks kick off the month with infrastructure and recreation updates.
  • Mid-September: Development, finance, and safety dominate with three straight evenings of meetings.
  • Late September: The second full Council meeting wraps the month with final votes on proposals advanced earlier.

Staying Connected

All meetings are scheduled in Council Chambers. Any changes will be announced at least 24 hours ahead of time. Residents interested in keeping up with city business are encouraged to check for updates and bring their perspectives on issues that affect everyday life.
