The Galion Tiger Alumni Band is preparing to celebrate its 50th anniversary with music, memories, and a return to the football field. The group, one of the oldest and most active high school alumni bands in Ohio, will hold its first rehearsal on Sunday, September 14 at 3:00 PM in the Galion High School bandroom. Alumni Night will follow on Friday, October 10, as part of the school’s Homecoming and Connections Weekend.
A Community of Musicians Reunites
Longtime GTAB director Brian Treisch hopes to see at least 100 alumni join the celebration. “This should be an easy goal to reach,” he said. Alumni who no longer wish to march are encouraged to participate by playing from the stands. Current GTAB president Kristine Karbula added a playful challenge: “We are curious to see who is the oldest band member to return.”
The music lineup mixes nostalgia and energy. Halftime will feature “Make Me Smile,” “You Can Call Me Al,” and “Hey Jude.” For pregame, the alumni will join the Tiger Marching Band in playing “Stand Up and Cheer,” “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “Hail to the Orange,” “Tiger Rag,” and “Eye of the Tiger.” A post-game performance is also being planned.
Building a Past, Present, and Future Tiger Band
Organizers hope to expand the celebration beyond alumni by including sixth and seventh grade band members, creating a combined band of past, present, and future Tigers. Weekly rehearsals will continue each Sunday at 3:00 PM leading up to Alumni Night, with additional practices scheduled on Thursday, October 9, at 5:00 PM before the bonfire and pep rally, and Friday, October 10, at 5:00 PM on game day.
