Galion Community Band Finale Concert
Sunday, August 10 · 6:00 PM · First United Church of Christ Pavilion, 248 Harding Way West, Galion
A Season Finale In Song
The Galion Community Band will close out its summer series this Sunday evening with a free outdoor performance designed to celebrate both community spirit and musical heritage. Listeners can expect an hour of stirring marches, Ohio-inspired melodies, and a thunderous conclusion worthy of the season’s grand finale.
Musical Program Highlights
Under the shared baton of Brian Treisch, Laura Mangas, and Wyatt Estep, the ensemble will open with Damrosch and Sousa’s rousing setting of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” From there, the repertoire moves briskly through lively favorites such as Fillmore’s “Rolling Thunder,” the nostalgic waltz “Beautiful Ohio” (Earl/Beeler), and Swearingen’s triumphant “Majestia.”
Two solo features showcase the band’s rising stars: Clear Fork High School student Austin Vanhouten brings lyrical warmth to Montgomery’s euphonium showpiece “Mirror Lake,” while Galion alumnus J Bishop lends mellow alto-saxophone colors to Binge’s “Romance,” transcribed by Mitchell. An audience-pleasing finale arrives with Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture,” arranged by Williams—complete with brass fanfares and resounding percussion.
Community Roots and Rising Talent
Formed in 1976 under the late director Tom Bowman, the Galion Community Band has become a summertime fixture, blending seasoned adult musicians with students from Colonel Crawford, Galion, Northmor, Clear Fork, and Shelby schools. Several performers are now honing their craft in collegiate music programs at Bowling Green State University and Baldwin Wallace University. “This is a very nice group of musicians,” longtime director Brian Treisch notes. “We hope the community comes out to hear this fine ensemble.”
Generous backing from The Galion Community Foundation, the Galion Elks, William and Marilyn Stepro, and Metronome Music, along with assistance from Galion City Schools and the First United Church of Christ, keeps the music playing. Free-will donations collected Sunday will go directly toward next season’s expenses.
