The Ontario Center is about to bring a classic pastime back to western Richland County. Construction on its new roller skating rink is nearly complete, with management aiming for a soft opening in mid-November and full operations by Thanksgiving weekend.
Originally planned as a synthetic ice arena, the rink has evolved into a more versatile and year-round attraction. It now serves as the centerpiece of The Ontario Center’s broader redevelopment—one that includes an updated arcade, a refreshed food court, and new family-oriented entertainment options.
A Weekend of Skating and Celebration
Grand opening festivities are set for the long Thanksgiving weekend, with events designed to draw both seasoned skaters and first-timers. The celebration begins the Wednesday before Thanksgiving with a ribbon-cutting and preview skate. On Black Friday, the rink will host a “Skate & Shop” event tying together mallwide sales and food court specials.
Throughout the weekend, themed sessions will keep the energy high. “Glow Skate” nights will feature neon lights and music from live DJs, while Saturday morning is reserved for kids’ sessions and beginner lessons. The weekend wraps up with a Sunday afternoon family disco skate—nostalgia included.
A New Anchor for Local Fun
The rink represents more than just a new place to skate. It’s intended to anchor The Ontario Center’s revitalization, creating a hub for families and visitors that extends beyond shopping. Management has shared that local sponsors and vendors are joining in for the grand opening, which will also kick off the center’s holiday entertainment season.
As final touches wrap up, excitement is building online, with The Ontario Center’s social media posts drawing attention from across north central Ohio. If all goes as planned, by the time Black Friday arrives, the sound of wheels on polished floors will echo through the mall once again.
