The Crawford Partnership, working with The Community Foundation for Crawford County, has brought back its Small Business Microloan Program—an initiative designed to give entrepreneurs in rural parts of the county a needed boost. The $3,000 no-interest loans are aimed at those ready to start a new business or open another location, helping to close the gap between vision and opening day.

The program builds on the momentum already seen across the county’s small towns, where shop owners and startups are breathing new life into Main Streets. By easing the last hurdles—like equipment costs, permits, or a month of utilities—the loans serve as a bridge between an idea and a set of open doors.

Investing in Local Growth

“Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy, and they play a critical role in the vitality of Crawford County’s communities,” said Makenna Laser, executive director of the Crawford Partnership. “Through this microloan program, we are excited to help reduce barriers for entrepreneurs who are willing to invest in our downtowns and rural areas, fueling both economic growth and community pride.”

Lisa Workman, president of The Community Foundation for Crawford County, noted that the loans have long-term impact beyond the first recipients. “As these loans are repaid, the fund has become a revolving investment fund, making additional future loans available for even more small, local businesses,” she said.
