Galion Public Library: Early September Events And Displays

The Galion Public Library is kicking off September with new displays, activities, and special programs. From September 1 through September 8, visitors will find an Orwellian twist at the entrance, one-on-one digital help sessions, a Red Cross Bloodmobile, and a lively round of Bingo for Books.

An Orwellian Touch at the Library Entrance

Visitors this month will notice something different the moment they walk in. The four main entrance displays are getting an Orwellian makeover, tying into the library’s Banned Book Week Month celebrations running September 17 through October 13. Each display comes with an activity, and those who complete it will get to pick a prize from the brand-new Adult Services Treasure Chest.

The theme for the main display, “Censorship is SO 1984,” highlights the importance of free access to ideas. Additional displays will showcase items about libraries for Library Card Sign-Up Month and highlight the most banned and challenged books of 2024 near the community puzzle.

One-on-One Appointments

For those needing help with technology, resumes, or research, the library is hosting free one-on-one appointments. Adults 18 and older can schedule a session on Tuesday, September 3, with time slots at 1:30 PM and 3:00 PM.

College students, pastors, job seekers, and anyone struggling with digital tasks can work directly with library staff. Sign-up is available through a QR code on the programming calendar, via social media, or with paper applications at the circulation desk.

Red Cross Bloodmobile

The library’s Community Room will host a Red Cross Bloodmobile on Friday, September 5, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This is a chance for residents to roll up a sleeve and make a direct difference in the lives of others.

Bingo for Books

Bingo fans have a double treat this fall. The next Bingo for Books night is set for Monday, September 8, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM in the Community Room. As always, snacks and refreshments will be provided while attendees play for a chance to win books.

One special prize is already drawing attention: a brand-new Frieda McFadden book, with a Ravenscloak gift card tucked inside.

Looking Ahead

This is just the start of what September has to offer at the Galion Public Library. More programs and celebrations are planned later in the month, but the first week alone is packed with ways to connect, learn, and have fun.
