Galion Students Earn Honors, Leadership Experience, And Flight Time

For one unforgettable week this summer, 19 cadets from Galion City Schools joined nearly 300 peers from across the country to take part in the Ohio Wing 2025 Encampment of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), held at Wright State University. The weeklong experience, which ran from June 7 to June 14, was a true test of leadership, endurance, and personal growth—and Galion’s contingent shone brightly.

As First Class Cadets, these students embraced a schedule packed with discipline and opportunity. From early morning drills to late-night leadership debriefs, the encampment offered more than just training—it was a crucible for character.

A Week of Action and Achievement

Under the guidance of two dedicated mentors—Dr. Hartmann and Lt. Allison Kentosh—the Galion cadets completed a range of physically and mentally demanding tasks. By week’s end, they had marched more than 100 miles, climbed towering obstacles like the Rebel Tower, and challenged their fears on the Rock Climber course. Each moment reinforced not just fitness, but resilience and unity.

One of the most memorable highlights came from the skies. Several cadets took to the air in orientation flights coordinated through Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, offering a rare and thrilling look into military aviation. For many, it was a first step toward a future in aerospace or service.

A Rising Star Among Leaders

In a culminating moment of pride, Cadet Zadrean Williams was named Honorary Cadet—a prestigious recognition for exceptional performance, leadership, and dedication throughout the encampment. His achievement reflects the high caliber of Galion’s CAP program and the values instilled in its cadets.

Beyond the Badge

The Ohio Wing Encampment was more than a test of will—it was a gathering of young leaders in the making. Friendships were forged, lessons were learned, and certificates were earned in a powerful reminder that leadership is not only taught, but lived.

As these 19 cadets return to their community, they bring with them stories of courage, perseverance, and teamwork—and a renewed sense of purpose for the missions still ahead.
