Ready, Set, Kindergarten!

Galion City Schools is giving families of incoming kindergarten students another chance to complete an important step and to become a part of the schools community before the new school year begins.

If a child missed the district’s earlier spring screening dates or was unable to attend a scheduled appointment, an additional kindergarten screening has now been set for August 7. The screening will take place from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Families should call the Galion City Schools Administrative Office at 419-468-3432 to schedule a screening appointment.

An Important Step Before Enrollment

For families preparing for that first year of school, the screening is more than a formality. It helps the district connect with incoming students and ensures that required enrollment steps are completed before the year gets underway. Galion City Schools notes that children eligible for kindergarten enrollment must be at least five years old by August 19, 2026.

The district also reminds families that kindergarten screening must be completed at the student’s school of residence before a child can open-enroll at Galion.

What Parents Need to Bring

Parents or guardians attending the screening appointment should bring the required documentation. That includes:

  • Parent or guardian photo ID
  • Child’s birth certificate
  • Current immunization records
  • Custody paperwork, if applicable
  • Two forms of proof of residency

Accepted proof-of-residency documents include:

  • Electric or gas bill
  • Voter registration card
  • Income tax return
  • Lease or mortgage documents
  • Homeowner’s or renter’s insurance

Families who cannot provide two proofs of residency will be able to complete a resident affidavit with the district’s notary.

Getting Ready to Welcome the Newest Tigers

With the August 7 screening now on the calendar, Galion families have one more opportunity to make sure their children are ready for the start of kindergarten. For the district, it is the beginning of another school year. For families, it is the start of something even bigger: a child’s first step into the classroom and a first official welcome into the Tiger community.
