The Galion Community Band: A Musical Tradition
Since 1976, the Galion Community Band has been a staple of the city’s summer music scene. Led by Brian Treisch, the group is made up of dedicated musicians from across the region, ranging from high school students to seasoned players. The band traditionally performs at Galion’s Fourth of July celebration and a second summer concert in August, showcasing a variety of concert band arrangements.
To continue this long-standing tradition, the Galion Community Band relies on community support. Funds are needed for insurance, sheet music, small stipends for musicians, and other operational expenses. Rehearsals for the upcoming summer performances will be announced soon, inviting all area musicians to join in keeping this vibrant musical tradition alive.
The Shawshank Big Band: Keeping Swing Alive
The Shawshank Big Band has made a name for itself as one of the premier swing ensembles in north central Ohio. With a lineup of talented musicians from across the region, the band delivers the authentic sound of the Swing Era, using transcriptions of classic big band arrangements. Under the leadership of trombonist Damian Boyd, the group has performed at venues such as the new Lyric Theater in Wooster, where they received enthusiastic applause for their energetic performances.
“We hope to have a good crowd to hear some great music and to support a good cause,” said Brian Treisch, a member of the band and of First United Church of Christ.
With a night of electrifying big band music and a chance to support local musicians, this concert promises to be a memorable evening for music lovers of all ages.
