The City of Galion has shared that Global Energy Partners, working as a contractor for Columbia Gas, began a significant infrastructure improvement project in Galion on Monday, March 24. The project involves the replacement of approximately 1,840 feet of natural gas pipeline along a portion of Maple Heights, between Portland Way South and Wine Street.
The upgrade will address ongoing reliability issues with the aging gas system and ensure safer, more efficient service for about 30 local properties.
What Residents Can Expect
Utility Markers and Yard Access
Residents may soon notice colored flags and markers placed in yards along the project area. These indicate the locations of underground utilities. Residents are asked not to remove or disturb the markers until all work is completed to avoid disruptions or safety hazards.
Service Line Replacements and Meter Relocation
After the new mainline is installed and activated, crews will begin work on individual service lines to homes. Each replacement is expected to take 2 to 4 hours and will involve a brief natural gas service interruption.
In many cases, indoor gas meters will be relocated outside. Global Energy Partners will contact each property owner to schedule an appointment for shutoff, relighting of appliances, and meter relocation where needed.
Property and Traffic Restoration
Temporary and Final Restoration
Crews will temporarily restore lawns, driveways, and sidewalks after their work to maintain safety and accessibility. Once the entire project nears completion, they will return to perform final grade restoration for all affected properties.
Traffic Impacts and Safety Measures
Motorists traveling through the Maple Heights area should expect some traffic congestion in active work zones. However, flaggers will be present to manage traffic flow and ensure safety for both residents and workers. Importantly, crews will not block driveways, allowing residents to come and go as needed.
A Commitment to Reliability and Safety
This pipeline replacement is part of Columbia Gas’s broader efforts to modernize its infrastructure, improve service reliability, and ensure long-term safety. Galion residents are encouraged to watch for communications from Global Energy Partners and respond promptly when contacted for appointments.
For questions or concerns, residents may contact Columbia Gas customer service or speak with on-site project supervisors once work is underway.
