The arrival of Christmastime is often marked by the days following Thanksgiving. This year, one of nearby Mansfield’s star attractions has something special in store for visitors to celebrate that season — and the fun and wonder have already begun.

Kingwood Center Gardens has been transformed into a winter wonderland, continuing a near-century-old tradition of festive celebrations. The event, known as “Christmas at Kingwood,” has become a cherished holiday destination, attracting visitors from all over the region. The late Charles Kelley King, the original owner of this 47-acre garden estate, set the foundation for this magical tradition with his grand holiday decorations and lavish celebrations.

A Timeless Tradition in a Historic Setting

Kingwood Hall, the heart of the estate, decks its halls in timeless elegance each Christmas. The tradition of the breathtaking 18-foot foyer tree continues, a nod to Mr. King’s passion for the holidays. Each room and hallway in the three-story French Provincial home is expertly adorned by volunteers, aligning with an annual theme. The stunning Drawing Room, where volunteer performers play, adds a musical backdrop to this enchanting tour.

Outdoor Splendor and Community Involvement

The Christmas experience at Kingwood extends beyond the mansion. The outdoor lighting displays create a mesmerizing path through the gardens. Here, guests encounter unexpected features and delightful vistas, highlighted by hundreds of vibrant string light trees of various sizes.

The Mansfield community actively participates in this festive event. Local garden clubs, volunteers, and corporate sponsors contribute to the decoration and hosting. A highlight is the Community Tree Walk, showcasing 50 live trees uniquely decorated by local businesses and organizations, each reflecting their unique spirit and mission.
