For the last two years, many area residents have enjoyed visits to the past along the streets of Uptowne Galion via Preserving Galion’s “Eerie Galion Walks.” During the Come Home to Galion festivities this Saturday, a similar walk will take place but with a very different theme.
This time, the “Merry Galion Walk” will share stories from Galion’s yesteryears and will involve a look at how Christmas has been celebrated Uptowne at various points in the last 193 years. From the introduction of European customs such as Christmas trees in the mid 19th century, to Victorian celebrations, to Roaring 20s exuberance, to bustling shopping in the 1970s, the focus will be on seasonal cheer.
“This will be a fun, interactive walk” said Thomas Palmer of Preserving Galion “that will tell stories hidden for decades. He added, “Word has it that a special visitor from our city’s past may well be making a cameo appearance.”
The unique, first-of-its-kind event involves a collaboration between Preserving Galion and the Galion History Center. The Merry Galion Walk begins at 2PM at the Gazebo on Park Square and will end at Brownella Cottage for a small gift commemorating the walk’s completion.
There is no cost, but reservations are welcomed. More information is available here – https://www.ticketleap.events/tickets/gillhouse/merry-galion-walk
