Lowe-Volk Park Nature Center is kicking off 2025 with an exciting lineup of interactive and educational events for nature lovers of all ages. Located near Leesville, just north of Galion on SR598 (Portland Way North), the center offers a cozy retreat for winter exploration and discovery.

The Nature Center resumed its winter hours on January 2:

  • Monday-Friday: 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
  • Saturday: 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM
  • Sunday: Closed

Fun for the Little Ones

Little Explorers: Snow

Let your little adventurers, ages 0-5, explore the wonders of snow! This interactive program is designed to stimulate sensory development and motor skills through indoor and outdoor activities. Whether snowflakes fall or not, this session promises cold, fluffy, and fun exploration.


Get Up Close with Nature

Face to Face: Lizards

Meet Simon, a friendly bearded dragon, and learn about Ohio’s own Common Five-lined Skink. Kids will enjoy the chance to interact with these amazing reptiles, guided by Naturalist Donald.

Feeding Day

What’s for lunch? Watch as the Nature Center’s residents feast on everything from leafy greens to shrimp and worms. Visitors may even get a chance to assist with feeding!

Winter Wildlife

Discover how Ohio’s animals stay active during the winter months. Park Director Cole will present a hands-on session featuring furs and skulls from wildlife that thrive in the cold.


Stargazing and Photography

Viewing the Night Sky

Join the Crawford Park Astronomy Club for a fascinating night of stargazing. Highlights include Saturn’s slender rings, Jupiter’s cloud bands, the Orion Nebula, and Andromeda Galaxy. Whether you’re an astronomy enthusiast or a beginner, this event offers something spectacular.
