Fresh, Local, And Free: Senior Farmers’ Market Program Returns For 2025

The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Inc., in collaboration with the Ohio Department of Aging, is bringing back a beloved initiative aimed at improving both senior nutrition and local agriculture. The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is back for the 2025 season—and it’s offering income-eligible seniors in nine Ohio counties a chance to enjoy $50 worth of fresh, locally grown produce and honey.

Who’s Eligible and What’s Offered

Residents aged 60 and over who meet the income guidelines and live in Ashland, Crawford, Huron, Knox, Marion, Morrow, Richland, Seneca, or Wyandot counties are encouraged to apply. Qualified participants will receive $50 in vouchers that can be redeemed for Ohio-grown fruits, vegetables, herbs, and honey at participating farmers’ markets and roadside stands.

Apply Online and Start Shopping May 15

Applications must be submitted online at aaa5ohio.org/services/sfmnp-1. All applicants—including returning participants—must reapply this year. An email address is required to complete the process, and once approved, recipients will receive a confirmation email. The benefit becomes active on May 15, just in time for spring and early summer harvests.

Need Help? Support Is Just a Call Away

For those who need assistance with the application or have questions, the Agency offers dedicated support at 567-247-7101. Friendly staff are ready to help ensure every eligible senior has the opportunity to benefit from this seasonal nutrition program.

Rooted in Independence and Dignity

Based in Ontario, the Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging is committed to supporting older adults and people with disabilities by promoting health, independence, and community connection. Programs like SFMNP reflect their mission by enhancing access to nutritious foods while also supporting local farmers and markets.

Don’t Miss Out—Apply Early!

With limited funding and growing demand, early application is encouraged. The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program not only puts fresh produce on the table but also brings community, health, and joy to the lives of older Ohioans.
