Special to 1831Galion
Randy and Tanya Metzger of Galion are celebrating winning the lottery twice in one day.
For the past nine months, the couple have played their birthdays in the lottery’s Pick 5 drawings.
In the December 3 evening Pick 5 drawing, they noticed they hit for $417 on one ticket by playing the $1 box. The winning numbers were 9-4-7-5-1.
“I never look at the other ones,” Randy said. “When I go and get them for the next day, I scan them.”
The next day, he went to Speedway #3187, located at 746 W Harding Way in Galion to cash in their tickets.
“It said, ‘$25,208.50’ and I go, ‘what?’ and then I look and thought, ‘those are the same numbers,” he said.
The numbers were the same as the winning numbers but were in a different order. This ticket was an auto pick and played as a backup.
After mandatory state and federal tax totaling 28 percent on the $25,208.50, the couple will take home approximately $18,150.12.
Randy said he and his wife plan to use their winnings to pay off a car and make Christmas merrier for several people who are in need.
Pick 5 is a daily draw game with drawings held at 12:29pm and 7:29 pm seven days a week. Learn more about Pick 5 and all Ohio Lottery draw games here.
