Covering schools in and around Galion is not as simple as drawing a circle around the city.
One of the first decisions any local news site must make is where its coverage begins and ends. In Galion, that is easier said than done. The community extends into three counties, and many residents regularly travel beyond the city, particularly east toward Ontario and Mansfield, for work, shopping, entertainment, and other activities. We live in a distinctive place here in the southeastern corner of Crawford County, and our coverage reflects that.
Defining the 1831Galion Coverage Area
1831Galion will continue to focus primarily on news involving the city of Galion. We will also cover Crawford County developments that affect local residents and businesses. Our coverage will extend beyond those boundaries when warranted, particularly for events, attractions, and developments in western Richland County and Mansfield that are relevant to people in the Galion area.
School coverage presents a slightly different challenge because district lines rarely follow city, township, or county boundaries.
Three School Districts at the Center
For now, 1831Galion plans to continue its previous approach by covering three primary school districts: Galion City Schools, Northmor Local Schools, and Colonel Crawford Local Schools.
Readers will begin seeing more news from all three districts in the coming days, including announcements, student achievements, programs, events, board decisions, and other developments of local interest.
Local Sports Coverage Will Return
One feature returning this fall will be our automatically updated local sports scoreboard, and it will reflect this scope of coverage.
As the fall sports seasons begin, the feature will provide scores and results for Galion, Northmor, and Colonel Crawford teams. It will offer readers a convenient way to follow area high school athletics throughout the season. Should our school coverage expand in the coming weeks, Crestline High School would be the most likely addition.
