From Classrooms To Cadets: Board Celebrates Community Champions

The Galion City School Board of Education convened this past week and celebrated achievements across the district and sharing updates that underscore its dedication to educational and community excellence.


Recognizing the Portrait of a Tiger Honorees

The meeting began with a special moment of recognition for students and staff who embody the Portrait of a Tiger quality of being Involved. These individuals were commended for their dedication to service and active participation in school and community activities, fostering a strong sense of Galion pride.

Student Honorees:

  • Reagan Fox – Kindergarten
  • Kathryn Rinehart – 5th Grade
  • Koltyn Little – 8th Grade
  • Cameron Eckert – 12th Grade

Staff Honorees:

  • Stacey Harding – Primary School Aide
  • Paula Prince – Intermediate School 5th Grade Teacher
  • Cindy Glew – Middle School Intervention Specialist
  • Olivia Tanner – High School Science Teacher

Each honoree exemplifies leadership and a passion for contributing to the success of their community and peers.


Fall Sports Shine with MOAC and All-Ohio Honors

Athletic Director Matt Tyrrell provided an inspiring recap of the fall sports season. Notable achievements included 32 athletes receiving Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference (MOAC) awards, with several earning state-level accolades.

1st Team All-Ohio Honorees:

  • Madelyn Schieber: Division V Honorable Mention, Volleyball
  • Allen Carver: Division IV Honorable Mention, Football
  • Jacob Chambers: Division IV 3rd Team, Football
  • Zach Sallee: Division IV 2nd Team, Football

These athletes not only brought pride to the school but also demonstrated the determination and talent that define Galion’s athletic program.


Civil Air Patrol Cadet Promotions

In a first for the district, 105 students were promoted to the rank of Cadet Airmen in the Civil Air Patrol program. This milestone reflects the dedication of both students and instructors to this initiative.

Instructors Brian Kentosh and Allison Kentosh were honored for their advancements to Senior Master Sergeant and Second Lieutenant, respectively. The program continues to instill leadership, discipline, and service values in Galion’s students.


Students Commit to Military Service

Two students were recognized for their decision to serve the nation through military careers:

  • Jacob Thomas will join the Army National Guard.
  • Avery Holtry will join the Army.

The district applauded their commitment and wished them success in their future endeavors, emphasizing the pride and support of the entire community.


New Treasurer Appointed

In a significant leadership development, the Board officially extended the Treasurer position to Shannon King, who has served as the district’s Director of Food Services since 2021. King will assume her new role in January 2025, reflecting the district’s confidence in her ability to provide strong financial leadership.
