On March 11th, the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center (MOESC) honored 14 exceptional high school seniors from its client school districts during the annual Franklin B. Walter Scholarship Award Program. Held in front of more than 100 attendees—including proud family members and school leaders—the event celebrated students for their academic excellence, school involvement, and community service.
Each nominee was invited to recognize one educator who made a meaningful difference in their lives. These tributes, shared aloud during the ceremony, highlighted the deep impact of teachers and mentors on the educational journey of these students.
Four Students Awarded Scholarships
Four seniors were awarded $500 scholarships, made possible by the Mid-Ohio ESC Board of Governors. These students stood out based on their grades, standardized test scores, extracurricular activities, and a personal essay about their “Positive Impact Person.”
Scholarship Recipients:
- Rebekah Case – Lucas Local Schools
- Jeremy Leber – Crestview Local Schools
- Isabella Stang – Bucyrus City Schools
- Katelyn Swingle – Plymouth-Shiloh Local School
Galion and Northmor Seniors Recognized
Among those recognized as Franklin B. Walter Scholarship Award nominees were two students from local high schools who stood out for their dedication to academics and service:
- Nathan Mendiola – Galion High School
- William Sears – Northmor High School
These students, along with their fellow nominees, were acknowledged not only for their accomplishments but also for their heartfelt reflections on the educators who helped shape their success.
MOESC Superintendent Praises Students and Educators
MOESC Superintendent Kevin D. Kimmel commended both the students and the educators they honored.
“These 14 students truly represent the best of the best in the region, and I want to congratulate them on their many accomplishments. I also want to thank the individuals that the students selected as their Positive Impact Person. This is quite an honor to know that you have made a difference in these students’ lives.”
Looking Ahead to State Recognition
One of this year’s scholarship recipients, Isabella Stang of Bucyrus High School, will go on to represent Crawford County at the Ohio Educational Service Center Association (OESCA) All-Scholastic Student Awards Luncheon on April 14, 2025. This statewide recognition, founded in 1990, honors the top student from each Ohio county for academic achievement and community involvement.
