Two Wins And A Fight To The Finish Under Friday Night Lights

Friday night brought two wins, one loss, and plenty of meaningful football for the three programs followed by 1831Galion. Galion broke through for its first Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference victory of the season, Colonel Crawford captured a close Battle for the Iron Plow, and Northmor stayed within striking distance before falling on the road at Fredericktown.

Tigers Get The Win They Needed

Galion returned home Friday night looking to stop a difficult stretch in conference play and did exactly that, defeating Pleasant 21-7.

The Tigers entered the game 2-4 overall and 0-3 in the MOAC after a narrow 24-21 loss at Highland one week earlier. Pleasant came to Galion with an identical 2-4 overall record but a 1-2 conference mark. This time, Galion finished the job.

The 21-7 victory improved the Tigers to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the conference, giving them some momentum as the regular season moves into its final three weeks. The final score was also Galion’s best defensive performance since its 21-17 win at Carey in Week 2.

Galion now turns its attention to another MOAC matchup Friday, October 9, when the Tigers travel to River Valley.

Eagles Take The Iron Plow

A few miles to the west, Colonel Crawford and Wynford renewed one of Crawford County’s familiar rivalries in the Battle for the Iron Plow. The Eagles emerged with it.

Colonel Crawford held off the Royals for a 33-27 road victory, improving to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in Northern 10 Conference play. The Eagles entered Friday at 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the league, while Wynford stood at 2-4 and 1-3. The victory also gave Colonel Crawford back-to-back wins following last week’s home victory over Lucas.

More importantly, the Eagles came away from a rivalry game in which six points separated the teams when the clock ran out. The schedule does not get easier. Colonel Crawford returns home next Friday to meet Mohawk, one of the teams that entered Week 7 unbeaten in Northern 10 play.

Northmor Falls At Fredericktown

Northmor faced a different challenge Friday, traveling to Fredericktown to meet a Freddies team that had won four of its previous five games. The Golden Knights stayed competitive but could not complete the road upset, falling 28-18.

Northmor entered the night 1-5 overall and 1-2 in the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference. Fredericktown came in at 4-2 and 2-1 in conference play.

The result dropped the Golden Knights to 1-6, but Friday’s 18 points represented an offensive rebound after Northmor was held to seven in a 57-7 loss to unbeaten Danville the previous week. Northmor remains on the road next Friday, October 9, traveling to East Knox for another KMAC contest.

Three Weeks To Go

With seven games now in the books, the regular season has reached its closing stretch. For Galion, Friday night’s victory offers an opportunity to build momentum after a difficult start to conference play. Colonel Crawford has climbed above .500 with a rivalry trophy in hand. Northmor, meanwhile, has three remaining opportunities to turn close stretches of play into victories.

Friday’s Week 7 scoreboard:

Galion 21, Pleasant 7
Colonel Crawford 33, Wynford 27
Fredericktown 28, Northmor 18
