The countdown to a new academic year has begun for Galion City Schools, with district officials providing families an early look at the opening schedule for 2026-27. Students will return through a two-day process designed to give those entering new buildings an opportunity to become familiar with their surroundings before the entire district is back in session.
The first day will be Wednesday, Aug. 19, for preschool students and students in grades K-3 and 6-9. These include students beginning the year in a new school building. Classes that day will operate on a two-hour delay.
All Galion students will attend school on Thursday, Aug. 20, including those who participated in the previous day’s opening. The district will operate on its regular schedule with no delay.
Supply lists available online
Families can begin preparing now by reviewing classroom supply lists for each grade level. Separate lists are available for preschool through second grade, grades three through five, grades six through eight and grades nine through 12. The lists can be found through the district’s Fees and Supplies page. The district plans to share additional back-to-school information, reminders and other details throughout the summer.
Technology fee applies to most students
Students in kindergarten through 12th grade are required to pay a $45 technology premium. The fee also applies to students enrolled in the Galion Online Academy. Exceptions are available for students who are not taking classes through Galion because they attend another institution full time. That category may include students attending Pioneer Career and Technology Center, College Now or full-time off-campus College Credit Plus programs.
Preschool tuition is $110 per month. Students in grades nine through 12 are also assessed class dues of $5.
College Credit Plus costs
Families participating in College Credit Plus should also be aware that charges may be assessed when a student receives a failing grade, and that those costs can range from $150 to $1,250 per class, depending on the books required and the location where the course is offered. School fees can be paid through the payment option provided on the district’s Fees and Supplies page.
With the opening dates now established, Galion families can begin planning for a school year that starts with a gradual return before classrooms across the district are once again filled.
