The first half of August will bring reptiles, water games, animal feedings and archery to Lowe-Volk Park, where the Crawford Park District has scheduled four family-friendly programs.
Located in Leesville, about four miles north of Galion, the Lowe-Volk Nature Center will serve as the setting for activities designed to introduce visitors to wildlife, outdoor recreation and the natural world.
Meet The Lizards
The month begins with Face to Face: Lizards at 5:30 PM Wednesday, August 5.
Visitors can stop inside the Nature Center to meet the Park District’s lizard ambassador animals and learn about species found in Ohio and other parts of the world. The program will offer a close look at the reptiles while exploring how different types of lizards live, move and adapt to their surroundings.
A Saturday Built For Getting Wet
Water Carnival returns from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM Saturday, August 8.
The event combines lessons about the role water plays in an ecosystem with an afternoon of outdoor games and activities. Fire trucks, water balloons, a slip and slide and an inflatable ball that floats on the water are among the planned attractions. Families are encouraged to arrive prepared to get wet.
What Is On The Menu?
Feeding Day begins at 5:30 PM Monday, August 10.
Visitors can join Lisa and help feed the wildlife ambassadors that live at the Nature Center. The menu could include fruits, vegetables, leafy greens, shrimp, worms, crickets, mice or other foods selected for the different animals. The program gives participants a chance to see what the animals eat and learn why each species requires a different diet.
Take Aim At Archery
The final program in the early-August lineup will take place from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday, August 17.
Participants will learn about archery safety and shooting basics before testing their skills against a target. Sessions will begin at 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM, with all equipment provided by the Park District. Registration is required for the archery program. Participants can reserve a place by calling the Crawford Park District at 419-683-9000.
All four programs will be held at Lowe-Volk Park and Nature Center in Leesville.
