City Updates: Utility Bills Delayed, Friday Morning Assault Arrest

Galion utility customers should expect their monthly bills to arrive later than usual as the city works through technical issues involving new billing software. The City of Galion announced this week that utility bills have been delayed while city staff and the software provider work to resolve the problems.

Meter Readings Were Completed Normally

According to the city, utility meters were read on their normal schedule during September. The delay involves processing those readings through the new billing system and making sure customers’ bills accurately reflect the meter information before statements are sent.

City officials said bills are expected to go out shortly.

Due Date Will Not Change

Despite the delay in receiving bills, the city said the regular payment due date will remain unchanged. Customers should also be aware that online account information currently will not reflect up-to-date balances while the billing issue is being resolved. The city characterized the situation as part of the “growing pains” associated with moving to the new billing software and apologized for the inconvenience.

Questions About Your Balance

Utility customers who need immediate information about their current account balance can contact the Galion Utility Office directly at 419-468-6611. The city said it is continuing to work with the software company to correct the technical issues and get this month’s bills sent to customers.

An early morning confrontation in Galion on Thursday ended with one man hospitalized with multiple stab wounds and another taken into custody on a felony charge. According to a statement issued Thursday by Galion Police Chief Ryan Strange, officers responded to the area of the Church Street overpass after receiving a report of two individuals fighting. While officers were on their way to the scene, dispatchers received additional information indicating that one of the individuals had been stabbed.

Victim Found On North Liberty Street

Responding officers located the victim in the 200 block of North Liberty Street, suffering from multiple stab wounds. Emergency medical personnel transported the man to Avita Health System’s Galion hospital for treatment. Police reported that the victim was in stable condition.

Investigators determined that an ongoing argument between the two men had escalated into a physical confrontation. During the altercation, a knife was reportedly produced, and the victim was stabbed multiple times. Police said responding officers quickly secured both the suspect and the suspected weapon.

Suspect Taken Into Custody

Gavin Bloomfield was arrested on a charge of felonious assault and transported to the Crawford County Justice Center.

The case will be forwarded to the Crawford County Prosecutor’s Office for review of all potential charges, according to Chief Strange. The department’s statement did not identify the victim or provide additional details about the circumstances leading up to the argument. No further information about the victim’s injuries or the suspect’s initial court appearance was included in Thursday’s announcement.

The charge is an accusation, and Bloomfield is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
