One Win and Two Hard Lessons Under the Friday Night Lights

Friday night brought three different outcomes for area high school football teams as Galion, Colonel Crawford, and Northmor continued their 2026 seasons on October 9. The Galion Tigers came away with their second consecutive victory, Colonel Crawford gave one of the Northern 10 Athletic Conference’s strongest teams a serious challenge, and Northmor endured another difficult evening in Knox Morrow Athletic Conference competition.

With just two weeks remaining in the regular season, the results helped establish where all three programs stand heading into the final stretch of October.

Galion Finds Its Footing Against River Valley

Galion 27, River Valley 10

The Galion Tigers are beginning to build some momentum at just the right time. Traveling to Caledonia for a Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference matchup, Galion defeated River Valley 27-10, earning its second straight victory and improving to 4-4 overall.

The Vikings struck first, but Galion responded and eventually took control of the contest. The 17-point margin represented the Tigers’ largest victory of the season. Perhaps the most encouraging development has been Galion’s defensive performance. After struggling to contain several opponents during September, the Tigers have allowed just 17 combined points over their last two games.

Friday’s victory followed a win over Marion Pleasant on October 2, giving Galion consecutive conference victories after three straight losses earlier in the season. For River Valley, the defeat continued a difficult campaign. The Vikings fell to 0-8 and remained winless heading into the final two weeks.

Galion returns home Friday, October 16, to face Marion Harding at 7:00 PM before concluding the regular season at Clear Fork on October 23.

Colonel Crawford Pushes Mohawk to the Limit

Mohawk 31, Colonel Crawford 27

In North Robinson, the Colonel Crawford Eagles came within four points of disrupting one of the Northern 10’s most impressive winning streaks. The Eagles fell 31-27 to Mohawk in a closely contested conference matchup that saw the Warriors extend their winning streak to seven games.

Mohawk entered the evening with six consecutive victories, several of them by substantial margins. Colonel Crawford, however, provided a much tougher challenge.

The four-point final margin was a significant contrast to Mohawk’s recent performances, including a 44-0 shutout of Wynford the previous week.

The loss dropped Colonel Crawford to 4-4, while Mohawk improved to 7-1. For the Eagles, Friday’s result was disappointing but demonstrated their ability to remain competitive against one of the conference’s leading programs. Colonel Crawford had entered the contest following a 33-27 victory over Wynford.

The Eagles will look to return to the winning column Friday, October 16, when they travel to face Seneca East at 7:00 PM. Their regular season concludes October 23 at Bucyrus.

Northmor’s Road Struggles Continue at East Knox

East Knox 26, Northmor 7

The Northmor Golden Knights traveled to Howard hoping to turn their season around, but East Knox had other plans. The Bulldogs defeated Northmor 26-7 in Knox Morrow Athletic Conference action, handing the Golden Knights their fourth consecutive loss and dropping their season record to 1-7.

East Knox improved to 5-3 with the victory, reversing the outcome of last year’s meeting between the schools. In October 2025, Northmor had dominated the Bulldogs 47-13.

Friday’s contest was a different story. Northmor managed just seven points against an East Knox defense that prevented the Golden Knights from mounting a sustained scoring challenge.

The defeat also continued Northmor’s difficulties away from home. The Golden Knights have now lost five of their last six road contests dating back to the previous season. Northmor’s lone victory this fall came September 11, when the Golden Knights defeated Cardington-Lincoln 41-8. Since then, the team has been unable to recapture that offensive success.

The Golden Knights are scheduled to face Mount Gilead on Friday, October 16, at 7:00 PM, before concluding the regular season October 23 at Loudonville.

Two Weeks Remain to Finish Strong

For Galion and Colonel Crawford, Friday’s results left both teams with identical 4-4 records, although their routes to that point have been considerably different. Galion has rediscovered its winning form and has an opportunity to finish above .500. Colonel Crawford, meanwhile, has demonstrated that it can compete with a conference leader, even if Friday’s narrow defeat leaves the Eagles looking for a rebound. Northmor faces a more difficult challenge, with an opportunity to improve its record and finish the season on a positive note. As October reaches its midpoint, all three programs have two regular-season games remaining. For players, coaches, and supporters, those final Friday nights will offer opportunities to build on successes, respond to disappointments, and give the 2026 season a memorable conclusion.
