The Galion Public Library is filling August with opportunities for adults to get out of the house, try something different and spend a little time with other people. The month’s adult programming ranges from poetry and crafts to flavored chocolates, conversation and game night. Most programs are open without registration, although one of the month’s tastier offerings has limited space and requires advance signup.
Poetry Moves to the Coffee House
The month begins Wednesday, August 5, with a Poetry Reading from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Three Bean Coffee House. Participants can bring their own poetry, share the work of a favorite poet or simply come to listen. The library will also provide material for anyone who would like to read but does not have something of their own to share. Paper and pencils will be available for those who want to jot down thoughts during the readings for discussion afterward. Three Bean’s baristas will also be on hand for anyone who wants to purchase a drink or treat during the evening.
Crafting for a Good Cause
Craft Night returns Wednesday, August 19, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and this month’s project has a four-legged beneficiary.
For “Bandana Day,” participants will decorate bandanas that will be donated to the Humane Society Serving Crawford County. Using fabric markers, crafters can create designs on bandanas in three different sizes to accommodate dogs large and small. The finished creations will eventually go home with dogs on their adoption days. The program is designed for adults 18 and older. Younger participants may attend with an adult.
Come Ready to Yap
Sometimes the program is simply about conversation and that’s the entire point! Adult Yap Club meets Monday, August 24, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The library supplies the snacks, while participants supply the conversation.
“Certified yappers of all kinds” are welcome. The program is intended for those 18 and older, although anyone under 18 may attend with an adult.
A Chocolate Expedition
The Yummy Little Treat Club, or Y.L.T.C., returns Wednesday, August 26, from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM with a particularly tempting August selection: fancy flavored chocolates from Bar & Cocoa. The club gives participants a chance to sample something new each month, and advance registration is required. Space is limited to 25 participants, and the library expects spots to fill quickly. Those interested should call 419-468-3203 and ask to be added to the Y.L.T.C. signup list, providing a name and telephone number for a program reminder. Because of limited space, the program is for adults 18 and older only.
Ending August Around the Game Table
The month closes Monday, August 31, with Adult Game Night from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Card games, board games and other favorites are all possibilities. Library regulars have been known to break out Rummy-O, Uno and even Magic: The Gathering. Participants can join in with whatever catches their interest and settle in for an evening around the table.
Game Night is intended for adults 18 and older, but younger players are welcome when accompanied by an adult.
From poetry over coffee to chocolates, conversation and games, the library’s August calendar offers several different reasons to gather, and perhaps discover a new favorite along the way.
