From storytime and science experiments to basement concerts and game night, the Galion Public Library has a full slate of programs planned through the end of September. The library, located at 123 North Market Street, is offering activities for children, teens and adults, with many programs designed to encourage creativity, movement and time together.
Storytime Returns Five Times
Young children and their families will have several opportunities to join Miss Nancy for Storytime, an interactive program combining stories with singing, dancing and sensory play.
Storytime will be held from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 16; Tuesday, September 22; Wednesday, September 23; Tuesday, September 29; and Wednesday, September 30.
Science and Movement for Kids
Elementary-age children can explore science during STEAM Ahead on Thursday, September 17 from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. The free monthly program is designed for children in kindergarten through fifth grade and uses hands-on activities and experiments to introduce a different theme each month.
A few days later, the emphasis shifts from experimenting to moving. MOVE will take place Monday, September 21 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. The program includes games, obstacle courses, Minute to Win It-style challenges and other activities designed to get participants moving. Comfortable clothing is recommended.
Teens Get Creative and Loud
Teen programming begins Thursday, September 17 with Junk Journals from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Participants can create their own journals using found and repurposed materials, and they are encouraged to bring items to share with friends.
Then on Tuesday, September 22, the library basement becomes a music venue. DIY Basement Shows runs from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and invites local bands to perform at the library. Sound equipment and a drum kit will be provided, with musicians needing to bring their own guitars and other personal equipment. Local bands interested in performing can speak with Ms. Hannah about getting on the schedule.
Crafts and Games for Adults
Adults can get creative during Adult Craft Night on Wednesday, September 23 from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM. The library offers a different craft each month, with September’s project still to be announced. The program is intended for adults 18 and older, although younger participants may attend with an adult present.
September programming wraps up with Adult Game Night on Monday, September 28 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Participants can bring out the cards and board games, with library favorites including Rummy-O, Uno and Magic: The Gathering. The program is intended for adults 18 and older, with youth again welcome when accompanied by an adult.
With programs ranging from preschool stories to live music, science experiments and game tables, the closing weeks of September offer plenty of reasons to make a trip to the Galion Public Library.
