A welcoming, pay-what-you-want concert will bring more than 55 musicians to the Renaissance Theatre stage this September as the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra presents “Radiant & Beautiful.” The performance begins at 7:30 PM Saturday, September 19, on the Renaissance Main Stage. Presented as part of the OhioHealth Symphony Series, the community concert is designed to make live orchestral music accessible to everyone.
A concert for the entire community
Music Director Octavio Más-Arocas will lead the Mansfield Symphony in a program intended for experienced concertgoers and those encountering a live symphony for the first time. The pay-what-you-want format allows audience members to choose the amount they contribute, removing one of the traditional barriers to attending a professional orchestral performance. Families, students and curious newcomers are invited to experience the sound and energy of more than 55 musicians performing together inside the historic Renaissance Theatre. No previous familiarity with classical music is necessary. The evening is meant to be relaxed, approachable and open to audiences of all ages.
An evening of contemporary music
The featured repertoire brings together four works by contemporary composers:
- “Everything Beautiful” by Gala Flagello
- “This Midnight Hour” by Anna Clyne
- “Howard Zinn: A People’s History” by Liam Cummins
- “Rainbow Body” by Christopher Theofanidis
Together, the selections promise an evening filled with movement, color and emotional range. The program also offers an opportunity to hear how today’s composers continue to expand the possibilities of orchestral music while building upon its centuries-old traditions.
