The 2023 Series of the popular Swingin’ On The Porch concerts takes place this Sunday evening, May 21 at The Gill House, 342 Harding Way West.

Leading off this year will be the early jazz and Dixieland sounds of The Redemption Jass Band. Yes, that’s “Jass” with two “s’s,” a reflection of the unique approach taken by this Mansfield-based performance ensemble. Leader of the group is trombonist Damian Boyd, who is no stranger to the unique venue.

Swingin’ on the Porch concerts take place on the historic East Porch of the house. This original porch was once graced by a visit by automobile pioneer Henry Ford; be sure to catch a photo of Ford on the Porch during your concert visit.

These concerts are presented by Preserving Galion, Inc., which has owned The Gill House since 2011 and is undertaking a room-by-room restoration. Attendees at the free concert are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on the lawn under the large copper beech tree.

The house will be open for brief visits during the intermission and after the concert. Donations are warmly accepted for the concert and proceeds will be split between The Redemption Jass Band and Preserving Galion.

Additional concerts will be held this summer. Stay tuned to 1831Galion for details.
