Many Galionites take a regular trip to Ontario for shopping, dining, and other entertainment. One of those venues may soon be closing.

There was likely surprise in many corners when the Mansfield News Journal posted a story yesterday about the potential loss of Ontario’s Cheddar’s Restaurant.

One place where there was apparently a great deal of surprise was at 979 N. Lexington-Springmill Rd., the address for the currently-operating restaurant.

According to the News Journal post, which can be read here, a conditional approval is being sought from the City of Ontario Planning Commission for a “GetGo” gas station on that spot. The submitted site plan, a copy of which is in the story, shows the facility on the current spot of Cheddar’s.

The restaurant opened in late 1994 in front of what was then Super Kmart.

As of Thursday afternoon, no mention was made of possible closure on the Cheddar’s Facebook page.

Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen began its operations in Irving, Texas in 1979. They now operate restaurants in 28 states.
