Special to 1831Galion

The Galion Port Authority announced today that the first house in the eleven-acre Renschville Development on Winchester Road is now available for sale. The new single-family ranch-style home will be completed by the end of January and is available for $299,000. The Port Authority will begin construction on a second house at the Renschville site yet this month. The site has the potential for 21 total homes.

Mark Rantala, Executive Director of the Galion Port Authority, was pleased with the announcement. “We are thrilled to spearhead this development project, recognizing residential growth as a key focus for both the City of Galion and the Port Authority. We are grateful for the City’s backing and the collaboration with 89 Homes and Galion Building and Loan, which are instrumental in bringing this vision to life.”

The 1,339 square-foot single-level home, built by 89 Homes from Jeromesville, Ohio, sits on a 0.25-acre lot and offers three bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, an attached two-car garage, and a full basement. Its open concept layout includes a kitchen, dining area, and great room. The master bedroom features a double bowl vanity, tiled shower, and walk-in closet. There are two additional bedrooms and a full bath, with potential for office use. The home also has a half bath, laundry room, and two-car garage. Externally, it boasts a large front porch, rear concrete patio, and comes with appliances, solid surface countertops, plus a concrete driveway and sidewalk.

Galion Mayor Tom O’Leary expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “This development represents another stride in Galion’s growth. It’s a testament to our community’s commitment to progress and our ability to collaborate effectively with key partners. We’re looking forward to the positive impact this project will have on our city.”

Since its inception, the Port has focused on residential development, spurred by a 2019 Danter and Associates study highlighting countywide housing needs. To encourage residential development, the City passed legislation creating a Community Reinvestment Area (CRA) in 2016. This property is eligible for a one hundred percent tax exemption for fifteen years.
