The rest of June and early July are filled with exciting events at Lowe-Volk Park. Here is what the Crawford Park District has on offer between now and July 8.

As a reminder, the Lowe-Volk Park Nature Center is located just south of Leesville, about 4 miles north of Galion on State Route 598 (Portland Way North).

Start off with a splash on June 24 with Mud Day, a playful celebration of International Mud Day. From 11am to 1pm, you can dip your toes or hands in the mud, or go all out and get completely covered! Don’t worry about the mess – the Jefferson Twp. Fire Department will be there to rinse you off, ensuring fun for the whole family.

As day turns into night, return to the park at 9:30pm for Viewing the Night Sky, a serene experience under the starry expanse of the evening sky.

On June 28, the focus shifts from the skies to the bullseye with an Archery event from 5pm to 7pm. Whether you’re drawn to the sport for fun, food, or the simple joy of hitting the target, this event will introduce you to the basics of archery safety and shooting. All equipment is provided, so just call the Park District at 419-683-9000 to register.

July begins with Feeding Day on the 3rd at 10am. Get hands-on experience feeding the animals at the Nature Center. Whether it’s preparing food for box turtles, feeding worms to snapping turtles, or treating snakes to a mouse, it’s a unique experience you won’t forget.

Later that day, the youngest explorers (ages 0-5) are invited to Little Explorers: Mud at 5pm. This interactive program stimulates the senses and develops fine motor skills with a focus on mud this month. Just remember to dress in your mud clothes!

Every Thursday morning throughout July, join Miss Chelsea at 10am for Nature Story Time. Each week features a different nature-themed story, animal visitors, and activities related to the week’s book. Stay updated on the upcoming week’s book and visitors by checking their Facebook page.

Finally, don’t miss the Animal Extravaganza on July 8 from 12pm to 3pm. This is a must-attend for animal lovers! Meet snakes, salamanders, turtles, invertebrates, and more. Various pet owners will be there to answer your questions and allow you to hold and touch the animals when appropriate. Add to the fun with face painting and a kids’ activity. Food concessions will be available for when you work up an appetite. It’s a family event you won’t want to miss!
