From Galion City Schools

In anticipation of the spectacular 2024 Solar Eclipse, Galion City Schools is thrilled to unveil an immersive experience for visiting sky gazers and community members alike. Our “Camping on Campus” event not only promises an unbeatable view of the celestial phenomenon but also offers a unique opportunity to support a noble cause.

The Galion City Schools campus is conveniently located just minutes from St. Route 30 and is  within walking distance of several restaurants and a grocery store. Campers will have the option to explore local dining, Heise Park, and downtown shopping options. Plans for food trucks to be on campus are also in the works.

By participating in “Camping on Campus,” attendees not only indulge in a memorable celestial event but also contribute to a meaningful cause. All proceeds from camping space rentals will go directly towards clearing student lunch debt within the Galion City Schools district. This year’s student lunch debt is approximately $7,000 and growing. This event is a great opportunity to help the Galion community launch some student debt out of this world.

In addition to the weekend camping opportunity, all Galion City Schools’ students will have Monday, April 8th off to allow for the large number of visitors expected to be in the area.  Each student will be provided with a pair of viewing glasses prior to the weekend to ensure they can safely experience the event off campus.

Camping on Campus will provide a stellar experience for all with two options:

  • RVs and Trailers: Asphalt parking spaces are available for RVs and trailers, in a 38’x 20’ space, providing comfort and convenience. Secure your parking spot for 2 nights for just $350. Limited spaces are available and expected to fill quickly.
  • Tent Spaces on Grass: For those who prefer the classic camping experience, 20’x20’ tent spaces  are available for $200 for 2 nights. Enjoy the serene atmosphere while camping under the stars. Approximately 75 grass spaces are available.
