Galion City Schools has announced the opening for submission of letters of interest for the open seat on the Board of Education.

In the just concluded November election, no individual submitted valid petitions for one Board seat, resulting in the vacancy. In its communication, the District revealed the process which will be used to fill the open position. It reads:

The Galion City Schools Board of Education has a vacancy, effective January 1, 2024.

The board’s remaining four members are legally required to appoint a replacement to fill this vacancy before the board’s next regular or special meeting, occurring not earlier than January 11, 2024. Per the Ohio Revised Code, the newly appointed member will serve a term starting on or before January 30, 2024, and concluding on December 31, 2025.

Any interested citizen who is a registered voter living within the boundaries of the Galion City School District must deliver their letter of interest by 4 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2024.

The letter of interest must detail the strengths the candidate will bring to the board, how the candidate sees the board moving the school district forward, and the candidate’s ability to work in a collaborative environment. The candidate must also attach a resume to their letter of interest.

The board will review all applications during an executive session of a regular meeting on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Candidates selected for interviews will be contacted and invited to a special board meeting on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, and/or Thursday, January 18, 2024, if required. The board will discuss the merits of each candidate in the executive session of the special board meetings.

The appointed person will be sworn in by the treasurer on or before January 30, 2024.
