Beautiful weather in Heise Park on Friday night was a harbinger of good things to come.

The Galion Tigers, now 2-1 in Mid Ohio Athletic Conference action, played a strong four quarters while the visiting Shelby Whippets had relatively little success after the first quarter until very late in the game. Galion won the contest, 34-27.

The first half saw the lead change four times as both teams scored often and quickly.

Galion’s strong running game was key to the Tigers’ win, as well as a suffocating defense that repeatedly kept the Whippets pinned deep in their own territory. A similar story took place late in the fourth quarter when a must-score Shelby drive failed inside the Galion 5 yard line.

As in weeks past, Gabe Ivy ran often and ran well, amassing a total of 189 yards on 20 carries. Logan Shifley contributed an additional 60 yards rushing.

Touchdowns for the Tigers were scored by Ivy, Landon Campbell, and quarterback Braxton Prosser.

The last few minutes of the game saw two quick Shelby scores that made things very interesting but were not enough to take the contest.

The Tigers host the Ontario Warriors next Friday at Unckrich Stadium. The Warriors lost to Clear Fork last night, 48-28.
