A Homecoming football game is always a major event at local high schools, and Galion’s 2022 version took place on remarkably clear skies and brisk temperatures in Heise Park.

The final home game of the season for the Tigers saw the team improve its record to 5-4, and its conference record to 4-2, with a strong 42-21 victory.

Galion took control of the game in the first quarter, and by halftime had built a 28-14 lead.

One of the Tigers’ remaining touchdowns came soon in the third quarter, but the final score did not take place until late in the game. The Tigers continued to exhibit a strong running game, and finished the game with almost 400 yards in total offense.

Fans at Unckrich Stadium enjoyed the crowning of the 2022 Homecoming King and Queen before the game; this year’s winners were Ryder McCabe and Reagan Ivy. You can view the announcement below.

The 45th annual performance of the Galion Alumni Band took place during pregame and halftime, as the band joined the Galion Tiger Band in several numbers. Halftime selections included “Great Balls of Fire,’ “Chameleon,” and “Birdland.” The show was dedicated to the late Martha Palmer, long-time GHS Flag Corps advisor.

Galion finishes its regular season next week on the road against River Valley.
