Kingwood Center Gardens will open its gates for a full day of free family activities, lawn games, garden exploration, and summer memories this Sunday, August 2. Kingwood Family Day will take place from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the historic estate, located at 500 Trimble Road in Mansfield. Admission is free, and the event will be held rain or shine.
For Galion-area families, Kingwood is a short drive east along State Route 309 or U.S. 30, making the event an easy summer day trip.
Activities Throughout the Gardens
Families will be able to explore Kingwood’s summer gardens while taking part in hands-on activities organized by the Kingwood Education team and several community partners. Participating organizations include Buckeye Imagination Museum, the Domestic Violence Shelter, Mansfield Richland County Public Library, Metronome Music, Richland County Master Gardeners, Richland Soil and Water Conservation District, Texas Roadhouse, and the YWCA.
Lawn games and other activities will be available throughout the day, giving visitors opportunities to play, learn, and spend time together across the estate. In the event of severe weather, activities will be moved indoors.
Food Trucks Join the Celebration
Are you hungry? Several food vendors will also be on site, including Alex’s Lemonade Stand, Cowgirl Creamery, Kona-Ice, and V&M Kitchen.
Although organized Family Day activities will conclude at 4:00 PM, the gardens will remain open until 7:00 PM. Families are welcome to stay, continue exploring, or simply relax on the grounds.
Gardens, Greenhouses, and a Historic Mansion
Kingwood Center Gardens was once the home and estate of Charles Kelley King. Today, the 47-acre property is known for its historic architecture, landscaped gardens, horticultural displays, and educational programming. Visitors can stroll through seasonal gardens, explore display greenhouses, and tour Kingwood Hall, the estate’s grand 1920s-era mansion.
The Garden Gateway visitor center includes the Kingwood Garden & Giftshop, Gateway Café, surrounding garden terraces, and “The Kingwood Story,” an exhibition recounting the history of the estate.
Open throughout the year, Kingwood also presents workshops, youth and family programs, educational activities, and signature seasonal events.
Kingwood Family Day offers families an opportunity to experience all of it without an admission charge, while enjoying a summer Sunday together in one of north central Ohio’s best-known historic gardens.
