Galion City Schools is inviting parents and guardians to step into a conversation that reaches well beyond the classroom. The district’s new “Raising Tigers: A Parent Learning Series” begins Monday, September 28, offering families an opportunity to talk openly about the challenges of raising children in a rapidly changing world.
The four-part series is open to parents and guardians of children of all ages, and children do not need to be enrolled in Galion City Schools for their families to participate.
A Conversation About Childhood Today
Organizers describe the series as a place where parents can ask questions, exchange ideas, learn from one another, and consider some of the pressures facing children and families today. Conversations will center around Jonathan Haidt’s book, The Anxious Generation, which examines changes in childhood, particularly the rise of smartphones and social media and the decline of independent play.
Participants will receive a free copy of the book.
The opening session on September 28 will provide an overview and focus on mental health today. Later sessions will examine the decline of play, the effects of screen time on the brain, and steps families and communities can take together.
Four Evenings Through December
All sessions will be held from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Galion Primary School Library.

- Monday, October 19 — Decline of play and its impact
- Monday, November 16 — Screen time and the brain
- Monday, December 14 — What we can do together
Free childcare will be available for children age 10 and younger.
Rather than presenting parenting as something families must figure out individually, the series is designed around shared discussion and support. Whether someone is a new parent, new to parenting, or simply looking for help navigating the next stage, organizers say the invitation is the same: come ready to listen, talk and learn together.
