Bump Clinics Give Student Athletes A Faster Route To Sports Injury Care

As fall practices and competitions get underway, so do the inevitable sprains, strains, bumps and bruises that come with student athletics. Avita Health System is once again offering its seasonal Bump Clinics, giving student athletes with sports-related injuries a direct route to evaluation and treatment by board-certified sports medicine specialists. The fall clinics are available now through October at Avita locations in Bucyrus, Galion and Ontario.

A First Stop After an Injury

A Bump Clinic is designed as an initial point of care for athletes injured during practices, games or other sports activities.

Rather than beginning with a traditional physician appointment, student athletes can have an injury assessed by a sports medicine specialist who can determine its severity, provide treatment when appropriate and help decide whether additional care is needed.

The clinics can address the kinds of injuries common during an athletic season, including sprains, strains, bruises and other problems involving muscles and joints. For athletes, parents and coaches, that can provide an important answer soon after an injury occurs: whether an athlete can safely return to activity or whether the injury requires additional evaluation or treatment.

Three Locations Available

In Bucyrus, Bump Clinics are held Mondays from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM at 140 Hill Street. The Bucyrus clinic operates on a walk-in basis.

The Galion clinic is located at 955 Hosford Road and is available on Mondays by appointment.

In Ontario, Monday appointments are available at 715 Richland Mall.

All student athletes with sports-related injuries are welcome to use the clinics.

Keeping Athletes Healthy Through the Season

Fall sports can place significant demands on young athletes as schedules fill with practices, games, meets and matches.

Some injuries are minor and respond quickly to rest or treatment. Others can be difficult to assess immediately, particularly when an athlete is eager to return to competition.

Avita’s Bump Clinics are intended to provide an accessible first evaluation from specialists familiar with athletic injuries and the demands of returning safely to competition.

The 2026 fall Bump Clinics continue through October.
