The Galion varsity boys golf team made an emphatic opening statement in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference championship race Tuesday, winning the first of four conference tournaments at Valley View Golf Course. The Tigers combined for an outstanding score of 303, finishing 14 strokes ahead of runner-up Pleasant. River Valley placed third with a 322, while Shelby followed at 330. Galion delivered the day’s best performance despite wet, humid conditions that tested the players’ concentration throughout the round.
Hart Leads a Balanced Lineup
Cullen Hart led the Tigers with a 72, shooting a 37 on the front nine before closing with a 35. Parker Finch and Christian Hart each finished with a 76. Finch recorded matching rounds of 38, while Christian Hart followed a 39 on the front with a 37 on the back. Jackson Henry completed Galion’s team score with a 79.
Phoenix Hunter shot a 101, and Zach Moneysmith finished with a 99.
Galion’s four counting scores totaled 303, giving the Tigers considerable separation from the rest of the eight-team field.

Tigers Remain Unbeaten
The tournament victory continued an impressive opening stretch for Galion. The Tigers have also won each of their first three conference dual matches, defeating Clear Fork 161-175, Ontario 164-174 and Highland 166-184.
Galion returns to Valley View on Thursday to host Shelby. The match begins at 5:00 PM. The Tigers will then compete in the second MOAC tournament at 9:00 AM Monday at Marion Country Club. The remaining conference tournaments are scheduled for Sept. 9 at Kings Mill Golf Course and Sept. 16 at Deer Ridge Golf Club.
The MOAC champion will be determined through points accumulated during the four tournaments and the round of conference matches. After one tournament and three dual victories, Galion has placed itself squarely at the front of that race.
