An event which took place 100 years ago this month was remembered and celebrated at the Gill House when famed inventor Thomas Edison and his wife Mina paid their respects at the landmark house.

In Ohio because of the funeral of President Warren G. Harding, the Edisons came to Galion to visit another close family friend. While teenagers, Mina Edison and Nellie Stewart Gill had developed a lifelong friendship at the Chautauqua Institution in western New York State. That occasioned the exchange of visits between the women.

Vintage Ford vehicles dating from the 1920s grace the house’s front lawn while reenactors portraying the Edisons and the Gills met and conversed with guests. They also viewed light bulbs created by area children during the Edison History Camp which took place the week before.
