The first annual New Year’s Eve Pickle Drop will make its official debut to ring in 2023 on December 31 in Uptowne Galion at 1803 Brewery & Taproom (123 Harding Way East).

“We are excited to host this unique event to celebrate the New Year and our dill-lightful little town,” said Trudy Kempf, one of the brewery owners. Kempf shared that choosing a pickle is a nod to long standing community Pickle Run festival.

The pickle drop will be staged in front of the 1803 Brewery & Taproom, which will be the headquarters for this event. 1803 will offer specialty drinks, such as a pickle martini and “pickle backs” made with local spirits from Iron Vault Distillery. Live music by Full Moon Duet will begin at 8:00pm.

A keepsake wristband will be available for $10. Purchase includes New Year’s party favors and a green champagne toast at midnight.

In addition to the brewery, other local establishments plan to join in the fun. Planet 14 will have their delicious, deep-fried pickles available for purchase that evening. The Galion Owls invites members to stop in for a special pickle cocktail, the “Hot Owl,” which features pickle juice and Tabasco. (Not a member? Consider joining the Galion Owls Club.)

“We’re so excited about this fun and dill-ightful new tradition for Galion!” Miranda Jones, Chamber Executive Director said. “The Galion-Crestline Chamber of Commerce is proud to sponsor this event.”

This Pickle with Personality stands three feet tall and weighs about 15 pounds. After making its first public appearance, the yet-to-be-named pickle will be dropped from a height of over 30 feet at midnight. The drop will be followed by a singalong of “Auld Lang Syne” and continued celebration Uptowne.

Parking will be available at any City of Galion public parking lot, as well as behind the 1803 Brewery & Taproom. The street will be blocked off beginning at 10:30pm until 12:30am. Bring a chair and dress for the weather!

Picture with the Pickle (an indoor version, with photo opportunities) will be available in the event of inclement weather. For more information and updates regarding the event, check out the 1803 Brewery & Taproom on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/1803brewerytaproom.
