Four-Day Rhythm, Fresh Start: Galion Schools Unveils 2026-27 Calendar

Galion City Schools will open the 2026-27 academic year with a staggered start, a Tuesday-through-Friday instructional schedule and Mondays reserved primarily for blended learning. The district’s newly released calendar, built around the theme “Courage to Climb,” gives families an early look at open houses, conference dates, school breaks and the final day of classes.

Open houses begin the school year

In typical fashion, the district will welcome families into its buildings before students return to their regular schedules. Open houses for Galion High School, Galion Middle School and Galion Intermediate School will take place Monday, Aug. 17. Galion Primary School will hold its open house Tuesday, Aug. 18.

The first student day will be Wednesday, Aug. 19, with a two-hour delay and a staggered start. That day is designated for students who are new to Galion City Schools and those entering a new building, including preschoolers, kindergarten students and students entering third, sixth and ninth grades.

All students in preschool through 12th grade will attend Thursday, Aug. 20, on the regular schedule with no delay.

Four-day instructional week takes effect

Beginning with the new school year, Galion City Schools will operate on a Tuesday-through-Friday in-person instructional week. Mondays will generally serve as blended learning days unless otherwise noted on the district calendar. The schedule represents one of the most significant changes families will encounter during the coming academic year.

The district’s at-a-glance calendar distinguishes between regular in-person school days and blended learning Mondays, while directing families to the complete calendar for exceptions and additional events.

Conferences and quarter-ending dates

Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 19; Monday, Nov. 23; and Thursday, Feb. 4.

Each academic quarter will conclude with a two-hour early release:

  • First quarter: Friday, Oct. 16
  • Second quarter: Friday, Dec. 18
  • Third quarter: Friday, March 12
  • Fourth quarter: Thursday, May 27

The fourth-quarter closing date will also be the final student day of the school year.

Holidays and scheduled breaks

  • Students will have no school on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7, and during an in-service day Tuesday, Nov. 3.
  • Thanksgiving break will run from Tuesday, Nov. 24, through Friday, Nov. 27. Winter break is scheduled from Monday, Dec. 21, through Monday, Jan. 4.
  • Additional days off include Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 25, and Presidents Day on Monday, Feb. 15.
  • Spring break will extend from Friday, March 26, through Friday, April 2.

School year concludes in May

The final day for students will be Thursday, May 27, 2027. Classes will dismiss two hours early that day.
