Drivers in the eastern part of Galion may notice some additional traffic as August gives way to September. A culvert replacement will close Ohio 314 north of Millsboro Road in Richland County for nearly two weeks, with the official detour sending motorists through Galion.
Closure moved back one week
According to a community announcement from the Ohio Department of Transportation, the closure will begin Monday, August 31.
The work had previously been scheduled for August 24 through September 4. ODOT now expects the affected stretch of Ohio 314 to remain closed through Friday, September 11.
Detour will pass through Galion
For southbound drivers, the detour route will be State Route 314 south to State Route 309 west to State Route 61/State Route 309 in Galion to State Route 97 east to State Route 314 and reverse.
That could bring a noticeable increase in vehicles along portions of Ohio 309, Ohio 61 and State Route 97 in and around the east side of Galion, particularly during the first several days of September. Drivers using the detour should allow some additional travel time. ODOT expects the culvert work to be completed by September 11, although the schedule remains dependent on weather and construction conditions.
