Bridge Work And A $75,000 Transfer Lead Tuesday’s Council Agenda

Galion City Council will turn its attention to two unrelated measures Tuesday evening, including preliminary legislation for rehabilitation of the Church Street overpass and a proposed $75,000 transfer to the Galion Port Authority. The regular meeting begins at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, July 14. Both ordinances are scheduled for first readings, although the Church Street measure must first be formally added to the agenda.

Church Street Bridge Project Set For Consideration

Ordinance 2026-58 would give the Ohio Department of Transportation the city’s consent to proceed with the planned rehabilitation of the Church Street bridge. The project is identified by ODOT as PID 126225 and involves bridge structure SFN 1763636. The legislation would establish Galion as the participating local public agency in an ODOT-managed project agreement.

Under the proposed ordinance, the city would cooperate with ODOT during the project’s development and construction, provide any necessary right-of-way and coordinate utility relocation. Galion would also assume responsibility for maintaining the completed improvements. The city would be responsible for its designated share of construction, engineering, right-of-way and related expenses. It would also pay the full cost of any locally requested features determined by ODOT or the Federal Highway Administration to be unnecessary for the core project. Galion would additionally cover the full cost of installing or repairing curb ramps at affected intersections when required for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The ordinance authorizes Service-Safety Director Nicole Ward to execute project agreements and other necessary documents on the city’s behalf.

The measure is written as emergency legislation so it can take effect immediately after passage and approval provided it receives enough votes. The council packet does not provide an estimated total project cost, Galion’s anticipated financial share, a construction schedule or information about possible traffic disruptions.

Port Authority Would Receive $75,000

Council will also consider Ordinance 2026-50, which would appropriate and transfer $75,000 from the city’s general fund to the Galion Port Authority. The money would be placed in a Port Authority community projects account designated for transportation, street improvements, capital expenditures, land and improvements.

That measure is also designated as emergency legislation, allowing it to take effect immediately if approved by at least five council members.

Crawford Partnership Presentation Planned

Before considering the legislation, council is scheduled to hear a presentation from Makenna Laser of Crawford Partnership. The published agenda does not describe the subject of the presentation.

Residents wishing to speak may obtain a form at the end of the council table and submit it to the council president before the meeting. Speakers will be asked to provide their name and address and limit their comments to five minutes. Council members may ask questions after each speaker has finished.
